pic1: Leon Rom (1861-1924) was a Belgian soldier who became the district commissioner of Matadi in the Congo Free State, and later head of the Force Publique army. He was the inspiration for the character of Kurtz in Joseph Conrad's novel Heart of Darkness.
pic2: John Malkovich played the role of Kurtz in 1994 TV adaptation of Heart of Darkness.
pic3: Marlon Brando starred in the role of Kurtz in Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 movie Apocalypse Now which is adaptation of Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
